Dates for Le Mans 2012 are confirmed!

The start of the Le Mans 24 Hours 2012 will take place at 3pm on the 16th June 2012 it was announced today.
The race will be held one week later than usual in 2012 as Le Mans 2012 is now part of the FIA World Endurance Championship, and the overall sporting calendar had to work for the teams and the race organisers.

The Le Mans 24 hours on the 16th & 17th June 2012 will be preceeded by a test day for all the teams at Le Mans on Sunday the 3rd June 2012. The test day was re-introduced in 2011 but has now been moved closer to the event itself to minimize the financial impact on foreign race teams.

Vincent Beaumesnil, the sports manager for the ACO stated “In 2011, the test day was held on 24th April due to the introduction of the new regulations, which meant that manufacturers had to build new cars for the LMP1 and LMP2 categories. It was essential to allow them time to test their cars on the 24 hours circuit well before the race itself. This time, in agreement with the entrants, it has been decided to organize the test day again because of its technical and sporting utility, but shortly before the event to minimize its budgetary impact on the teams and organizers”.
